oxford iberian history seminar ht2026

The convenors of the Iberian History Seminar are pleased to announce the term card for Hilary Term 2026. The programme reflects the seminar's aim to range widely across the premodern history of the Iberian peninsula and beyond, with world-leading scholars and talented early career researchers presenting and discussing cutting-edge research.

The seminar will meet fortnightly from Week 2. The first talk of 2026 will be given by our very own Michael Bax (Magdalen College) and Tania Bride (Balliol College) who will present their extraordinary findings on a forgotten Nahuatl manuscript from the Bodleian Library. We will continue with early colonial Mexico in Week 4, when Davide Domenici (Bologna) will speak about his ongoing research into the circulation and reception of Mesoamerican objects in early modern Italy. In Week 6, Rodrigo García-Velasco (UCL) will take us to the late medieval Iberian Peninsula to discuss law and religious minorities. The series will conclude with a paper on indigenous peoples in late sixteenth-century Brazil by Charlotte de Castelnau-L’Estoile (Sorbonne).
