The Reading Group on Iberian History (Medieval & Early Modern), established in January 2018, meets during term time. The group aims to provide a space where people from across the University of Oxford with an interest in the history of Iberia and the global empires of Spain and Portugal can meet to discuss primary and secondary sources in an informal setting. Attendance is free and open to all: meetings have enjoyed a lot from the contribution of students and scholars working on Iberian medieval or modern history, as well as literature or history of art, who have provided the group with an interdisciplinary approach that has also formed the basis of a one-day graduate workshop, which is sometimes organised in June.
The series organised in Hilary Term 2026 is convened by Euan Huey (Wolfson College) in collaboration with Benjamin Branch-Trevathan (Merton College), Daniel Dias (Somerville College), Lily Sonnenblick (Pembroke College), and Charlotte Visconsi (St Peter’s College).
PDFs of the readings for each session can be obtained by writing to iberian@history.ox.ac.uk.
