Joan Pau Rubiés is ICREA Research Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona and a Visiting Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Oxford in Hilary Term 2023. His research focuses on cross-cultural encounters in the early modern world, from a perspective combining the contextual analysis of ethnographic sources with the intellectual history of early modern Europe. His many publications include the books Travel and Ethnology in the Renaissance: South India through European Eyes (Cambridge University Press, 2000), Travellers and Cosmographers: Studies in the History of Early Modern Travel and Ethnology (Ashgate, 2007), and Medieval Ethnographies: European Perceptions of the World Beyond (Ashgate, 2009).
