Silence (2016) is an epic historical drama directed by Martin Scorsese. Based on the novel Silence (1966) by Shusaku Endo, the film is about two Portuguese Jesuit priests who travel to seventeenth-century Japan in an attempt to locate their mentor, who is rumoured to have committed apostasy, and to propagate Catholicism.

The screening of the film is part of the programme of activities associated with the stay of Jorge Flores (University of Lisbon) in Oxford as TORCH International Fellow. Professor Flores will introduce the film and there will be a stand-up dinner after the screening.
