Stuart McManus - 1619: The Iberian and Global Origins of Anglo-American Slavery

Stuart M. McManus is Assistant Professor of History at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is currently a visiting fellow at Exeter College, Oxford. A humanist and legal historian working on law, slavery, and empire in world history from a global and multi-ethnic perspective, his research has a special focus on the history of classical scholarship, the Iberian empires, and Chinese humanities. His publications include the book entitled Empire of Eloquence: The Classical Rhetorical Tradition in Colonial Latin America and the Iberian World (Cambridge University Press, 2021).
