My MSt research centres on hábito in 16th and early 17th century Mexico, considering the association between garments and behaviour or custom. Drawing on these tensions, I will investigate how Nahua communities and Catholic friars negotiated their respective understandings of the relationship between clothing, embodiment, identity, and priestly roles. More generally, I am interested in the history of the body, dynamics of cross-cultural communication, the many meanings people make of rituals.
I completed my BA in history at Pembroke College, Oxford in June 2025, and am now studying for an MSt in Early Modern History, also at Pembroke.
