Polyphonic Communities Conference: Full Programme Published!

We are delighted to publish the programme for the upcoming conference, Polyphonic Communities: Ways of Belonging in the Medieval and Early Modern Iberian World!

The programme begins at 4pm GMT on 28th January 2021 with a keynote address from Antonio Feros entitled 'On Belonging in Early Modern Spain - From Faith to Race'. The conference will then proceed with five panels, each themed around different 'ways of belonging', so as to explore the multiple perspectives through which communities in the Iberian past were formed, described, sustained and influenced by outsiders. After each panel there will be time for questions and discussion.

At 4.45pm we begin with 'Congregating', a panel of three papers chaired by Gervase Rosser. The first day of the conference concludes with 'Assimilating', chaired by Giuseppe Marcocci.

The conference will resume at 4pm GMT on 29th January 2021 with 'Regulating', chaired by Stephanie Cavanaugh. The following two panels are 'Visualising', chaired by Costanza Belltrami, and finally 'Performing', chaired by Jonathan Thacker.

The conference will be brought to a close by a roundtable discussion at 6:30pm GMT. The conversation will begin with reflections from a number of the panel chairs about the themes and common threads brought up throughout the conference, before the discussion is thrown open to all attending. We hope this will be an opportunity for synthesis and reflection on the contributions of our speakers to our understanding of communities and their construction in Iberian history and beyond.
